Tired of hunting down dead links manually? Well this module may be just what you need. Link Checker automatically checks all links in all nodes and repots on those that are broken. It even tells you why you can't reach the link (i.e. 404 File not found, 500 Internal server error, -101 Connection Timeout, etc...)
What you'll need: Link Checker Module, cron configured
How to do it:
- Install the module
- Configure the Link Checker settings in "Site Configuration"
- Check out the Broken Links report under "Reports"
Simple as that. The checker runs on each cron run. It may take some time to check all your links (especially if you've got a lot of content). One handy feature is the auto-unpublishing of nodes with dead links. You can setup the checker to unpublish a node if a broken link is reported once, twice or whatever you want. For instance, I have my checker running weekly. If after three checks (so three weeks) if a link is still dead, the node is unpublished. There are a lot of options with this module so be sure to explore it a little. Too much to cover here.
